University Space Planning

On September 22, 2022, members of our Asian Pacific Islander (API) community and their allies hosted a demonstration on campus, and subsequently issued the following demands:
  • Prioritize API Student Success
  • Designate space for the Asian & Pacific Cultural Center
  • Invest in recruiting and retaining API students

On October 4, 2022, API student leaders met with President Parham and administrators to discuss a path forward on all of the issues presented in the list of demands, including space. Since the meeting on October 4:

  • On November 4, 2022, campus administrators presented API student leaders and stakeholders a potential space in Loker Student Union for the APCC.
  • CSUDH has established the parameters for a University Space Committee. As detailed in this policy overview [PDF], the committee is charged with creating solutions for current space needs as well as anticipating future needs using equitable and holistic practices. The administration is working with key stakeholder groups to identify representatives of CSUDH students, faculty, and staff to serve on this committee. Committee members will be listed on this website once identified.

Leaders from the Asian Pacific Islander community viewed and approved the location for the Asian and Pacific Cultural Center.

  • The APCC and its director will be located at Welch Hall 250
  • To accommodate APCC needs, the space will require alterations and will open to the community in Spring 2023
