Resources and Options for Accused Individuals ("Respondents")

If you've been accused of sexual misconduct, sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, or stalking, you have a number of options and resources available to you. You can request a meeting with the Office of Equity and Inclusion by phone at (310) 243-1025 to discuss these resources and options.

You may have an Advisor or Support Person present throughout the investigative process. CSUDH has trained a group of employees in our policies and processes to serve as Title IX/DHR Process Advisors for Respondents and Complainants (although your Advisor may be anyone). Please visit the Title IX/DHR Process Advisor Program website for a list of trained Advisors and call (310) 243-1025 for assistance finding an Advisor.

  • The CSUDH Employee Assistance Program, provided through LifeMatters, provides 24-hour confidential services, including counseling, at (800) 367-7474. Information about the Investigation Process:

For investigations under the CSU Policy Prohibiting Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Misconduct, Sexual Exploitation, Dating Violence, Domestic Violence, Stalking, and Retaliation, detailed information regarding the investigative process can be found in the policy. The summary below is not intended to be exhaustive:

  • You may have an Advisor of your choice accompany throughout the Complaint process, including interviews with investigators and disciplinary hearings. Advisors may be anyone except parties that are witnesses or otherwise involved in the investigation. If you are an employee, your Advisor may be your union representative.
  • You may provide documentary evidence to be reviewed in the course of the investigation.
  • You may provide witnesses to be interviewed in the course of the investigation, though the investigator retains the right to determine which witnesses are relevant. 
  • Your identifying information will be kept private and only disclosed to those with a need-to-know.
  • You have the right to review the evidence upon which a decision is being made prior to the investigator's report being finalized.
  • Some complaints will go to a live hearing. More information will be provided about these processes during the investigation process. 
  • You will be provided the outcome of any proceedings in writing.
  • You will be provided with instructions and the opportunity to appeal the results of an investigation or disciplinary proceeding prior to the time such results become final. 
  • Investigations will be completed within 100 working days, although extensions are allowed for good cause.
  • If the parties mutually agree (alongside the agreement of the Title IX Officer/DHR Administrator), Complaints may be resolved through an informal resolution process. You may request to learn more about this process at any time before and during an investigation.
